When his daughter Isabel Mary was born in 1894 Charles was a newspaper reporter.
On the 1881 census Charles is unmarried and living with his widowed mother at 11 Rackham Street, Middlesex, London. He was aged 20 and working as a railway clerk in the cash department.
On his death certificate Charles' occupation was "Mercantile Reporter". He died of Pithisis Pulmonalis, amyloid disease, and bronchial catarrh on 12 October 1895 aged 34. The death was registered by his widow Annie.
